Client Feature Friday: Feeling Empowered From Muting the Inner Mean Girl

Jezebel VonZephyr works with all kinds of women, from the suburbs of Seattle to all over the Pacific Northwest and beyond. We love connecting with each client, hearing her stories and capturing her unique spirit. We believe that every session is special in its own way, and we want to share that magic with the world. Every Friday we feature one of our clients and share a little about her. 

Today we’re featuring one of the studio’s repeat clients. This Seattle-born Belle has done a few sessions with Jezebel VonZephyr. We absolutely love shooting her because not only does she brings the most fun outfits with her, she brings the fire with her fierce confidence and up-for-anything attitude! She embodies the Jezebel belief that women should uplift and empower one another and we’re thrilled to feature her on our blog!

Where are you from? Seattle, WA

What is your theme song? Juice by Lizzo (“If I’m shining everybody gonna shine…”)

What are three words you’d use to describe yourself? Introvert, loyal, and kind.

Is this your first Jezebel shoot? If not, how many have you had? I’ve done four sessions (so far): a mini session for headshots, my Brand Ambassador session, and two Signature Experience sessions.

Why did you decide to book a session with JVZ? In 2017, a friend posted a link to JVZ’s headshot event. (Blogger’s note: we’ll have another one of those coming up this fall, so watch our social media and this blog for more info on that!) My professional and social media profile pictures needed to be updated, so I booked a headshot session. Why not? JVZ is a local business run by women and I thought it would be fun to spend an afternoon getting spoiled with makeup, hair, and professional styling.

I had so much fun that I booked a Signature Session for my next birthday…and that was so much fun that I became a Brand Ambassador in 2018…and that was so much fun that I volunteered to help mentor the 2019 Brand Ambassadors…and…when women lift women, great things happen.

How did you feel before your shoot? My inner mean girl had a lot to say before each session. All of those old narratives about not being pretty enough or thin enough or whatever enough were on loudspeaker in my head and I was a bundle of nerves wondering how on Earth JVZ was going to take good photos of me. Fortunately, my inner mean girl wasn’t invited and the JVZ staff made it clear that each session is for me, not her.

How was your session? What was your favorite part? I love seeing how JVZ styles and sets up the elements of each outfit – the accessories, the lighting, the props. Every single time, the shots came out way better than anything I imagined.

What was your favorite look from your session? Why? The silver suit with the prismatic boots is my favorite look from my last shoot. It was a lot of fun!

Did you bring anything special with you to the studio? Why? For the headshot session, I brought professional work outfits. The second session (boudoir), I brought a knitting project. For the Brand Ambassador session, I brought butterfly wings. For my last session, I brought ropes, a whip, and some sky-high stiletto heels. It’s a fun journey!

How was your reveal? Each reveal is like opening gifts. I’m always stunned that the person in the reveal is ME and that JVZ was able to brainwash me into believing that I’m beautiful.

Any advice for anyone thinking of booking a session with JVZ? If the thought of doing a session makes you excited and a little terrified, then just do it. There’s nothing but unconditional love on the other side of that fear.

Does the thought of doing a boudoir shoot make you feel excited and a little scared? Then you should take this Belle’s advice and book your own session. You’ll leave our studio feeling uplifted and empowered. And hopefully you’ll learn to mute your inner mean girl, just like she did! What’s holding you back?
