At Jezebel, we celebrate you. This encompasses every facet of who you are – who WE all are. We show you ways to see yourself through the lens of unconditional love, and we understand that some days it’s easy to appreciate ourselves, and other times it can be more of a challenge.ย
This is where we want to flip the script and really talk about what our bodies can do for us. Honest discussions can lead to acceptance, and acceptance can open our eyes to the possibilities of love.ย
Tuesdays at Jezebel are all about tummies! Each week we’ll be showcasing some of our favorite images where they have a starring role. We’ll be discussing the challenges we face with an often disliked part of our bodies and hopefully turning those conversations towards ones of appreciation.ย
But what if I don't like my tummy?!
Itโs easy to forget that our tummies donโt exist to meet some idealized standard of beauty, but rather serve as the foundation of our health. Every curve, every line, and every soft part tells a story of life, experiences, and growth. Sometimes itโs easy to get caught up in societal expectations, but it’s important to remember that your body is working tirelessly to keep you healthy, and thatโs something worth appreciating.
Loving our bodies is a journey
Itโs okay to have moments of insecurity. Everyone does, including those of us at Jezebel!
It’s also okay to not be in a place of full acceptance yet. The relationship with your body is a journey, and everyone’s journey is a little different. Maybe today, you look in the mirror and wish for something different, but that doesnโt take away from all the incredible things your body is doing for you right now!
Each day we can take small steps to reframe the narrative we might hold about our tummy (or any other part we might not totally love)โ which might look like starting small and saying,
“I honor my body and its needs,” orย “My body is worthy of love, just as it is.”
It doesn’t even have to be out loud. Maybe it’s just a whisper to yourself when you’re brushing your teeth in the morning. The goal isnโt to reach perfection but rather to grow more connected with and kind to ourselves.
Embrace where you are now and remind yourself that itโs okay to evolve in your feelings over time. We donโt have to love everything about our bodies right away, but maybe we can begin to shift the narrative by adjusting our perspective towards one of respect and appreciation. โฅ
