01 May BodyTalks: Tushy Thursday!
Today is tush-day!
At Jezebel, we celebrate you. This encompasses every facet of who you are – who WE all are. We show you ways to see yourself through the lens of unconditional love, and we understand that some days it’s easy to appreciate ourselves, and other times it can be more of a challenge.
This is where we want to flip the script and really talk about what our bodies can do for us. Honest discussions can lead to acceptance, and acceptance can open our eyes to the possibilities of love.
Thursdays at Jezebel are all about the butt! Each week we’ll be showcasing some of our favorite images where they have a starring role. We’ll be discussing the challenges we face with an often disliked part of our bodies and hopefully turning those conversations towards ones of appreciation.
We're bringing booty back
Happy Thursday lovelies! With the beginning of May, Jezebel is enjoying our spring and excitedly looking towards summer! Summer means swimming, and with swimming comes swimwear – which either brings feelings of giddiness…or dread.
All too many womxn worry each year when the cutest, brightest swimwear is prominently put on display (in February, no less). We’re concerned about our weight, or the shape of a body part, or our scars…and what if we don’t have a flawless tan to accompany our trips to the beach?
At Jezebel, we encourage you to lean into that fear. Buy that bikini, or any swimwear that makes you feel comfortable and flaunt it openly and with empowerment! We’ve said it before, and we’re happy to repeat the mantra: your body is not something that needs to be fixed – it’s incredible, supportive and the home to who you are exactly as it is ♥
Loving our bodies is a journey
Give yourself the permission to enjoy the sun, the water, and the space to just be present.
You deserve to feel the breeze on your skin and the freedom that comes with not covering up out of shame. Confidence doesn’t come from shrinking your body; it comes from owning your presence right now, exactly as you are.
Feel like you’re ready to jump in and buy that bikini? Here are some tips that can help us ease into being comfortable in potentially unfamiliar territory!
1. Prioritize Fit Over Size
Don’t get hung up on the number or letter on the tag—different brands size things differently.
What matters most is how the bikini feels on your body. Look for pieces that offer enough coverage and support where you want it.
For example, high-waisted bottoms can provide tummy support and a vintage vibe, while underwire or molded-cup tops can give added lift and structure for your chest.
2. Look for Supportive and Flattering Cuts
Try styles that highlight the parts of your body you love. If you like your waist, look for wrap tops or cutouts that draw attention there. If you want more upper-body support, halter necks or wide straps can help. Ruched sides, layered fabrics, or side panels can also create flattering lines without sacrificing comfort.
3. Play With Color and Pattern
Dark colors can feel more secure and classic, while bold prints and bright colors can be energizing and fun. Don’t be afraid to mix and match!
Sometimes pairing a patterned top with a solid bottom (or vice versa) helps balance your look and draw the eye in ways that feel empowering!
4. Try Before You Buy (If Possible)
If you’re shopping in person, take the time to try different styles, and give yourself grace during the process. If you’re shopping online, look for sites with good return policies so you can try a few options at home.
Maybe you already have a drawer full of swimwear that you wear regularly and absolutely love! Do you have recommendations for others? What are some of your favorite pieces or companies?
Want to be part of the conversation? We’d love to hear from you! Your ideas, opinions, tips, favorite affirmations and more can be featured in some of our upcoming themes and discussions, so head on over to our socials and let us know your thoughts!
