03 Jun BodyTalks: Tummy Tuesday
On Tuesdays, We Talk Tummies..
At Jezebel, we celebrate you. This encompasses every facet of who you are – who WE all are. We show you ways to see yourself through the lens of unconditional love, and we understand that some days it’s easy to appreciate ourselves, and other times it can be more of a challenge.
This is where we want to flip the script and really talk about what our bodies can do for us. Honest discussions can lead to acceptance, and acceptance can open our eyes to the possibilities of love.
Tuesdays at Jezebel are all about tummies! Each week we’ll be showcasing some of our favorite images where they have a starring role. We’ll be discussing the challenges we face with an often disliked part of our bodies and hopefully turning those conversations towards ones of appreciation.
But what if I don't like my tummy?!
As something that’s typically considered a luxury purchase, a boudoir session sometimes lives on our bucket list for longer than we’d like it to. In this week’s BodyTalks: Tummy Tuesday edition, we’re going to take a moment to discuss why it’s important to invest in ourselves – because that’s what boudoir is. It’s an investment.
The amount of advice published on social media that suggests investing in yourself first has been on the rise in the last couple of years. While these instances are typically finance based, we can’t help but echo the same sentiment.
Booking a boudoir session at Jezebel is far more than just taking beautiful pictures—it’s a deeply personal experience that can shift how we see ourselves, helping to strengthen both our mental health and self-worth!
Loving our bodies is a journey
Investing in a boudoir session can heighten our senses and give us reason to break out of the disconnected feeling that can come with our ever-busy schedules.
Today we’ve gathered 5 reasons why booking your session can and does evolve the relationship you have with yourself. As a bonus, these changes often help you reflect on how your relationships with others can also change. The kindness and appreciation you begin to foster within spreads to those around you, giving you the opportunity to change your entire life!
1. Reclaiming and Celebrating Our Bodies
Many of us live disconnected from our bodies—judging them, comparing them, or trying to change them rather than honoring them. A boudoir shoot invites us to pause, see ourselves differently, and appreciate our bodies for where they are right now—not some version we’re waiting to become. Shifting our focus from criticism to appreciation reduces the amount of weight we allow our mean girl to have in our life.
An experience at Jezebel also allows us to see ourselves through an artistic, empowering lens and reinforces the idea that we are worthy of attention, admiration, and love.
2. Challenging Shame and Reclaiming Confidence
For many people, feelings of shame, insecurity, or discomfort around sensuality or appearance run deep. A boudoir shoot can be a healing way to reclaim those parts of ourselves—to feel sensual without shame, to feel powerful without needing permission.
Having the ability to let go of shame frees up our emotional energy and creates room for joy, ease, and authenticity. When we challenge the thoughts and behaviors we’ve held for years and years, an actual weight lifts from our shoulders. The gentleness with which we begin to treat ourselves feels like a cleansing, deep breath – when all we’ve managed to do up until now is survive.
3. Deepening the Relationship with Ourselves
Taking time to prepare for and participate in a boudoir shoot is a form of intentional intimacy with ourselves. It encourages us to explore what makes us feel beautiful, powerful, soft, fierce—or all of the above. This exploration fosters mindfulness and deeper self-understanding, both of which are linked to greater psychological well-being.
When we witness ourselves acting with honesty and tenderness, we stop hiding and start showing up more fully in life. In doing so, that honesty and tenderness spreads to our family, friends, co-workers and even strangers, which then fosters a sense of camaraderie with our neighbors and our community as a whole.
4. Creating a Ripple Effect of Kindness
When we nourish the relationship we have with ourselves—especially our bodies—we become more grounded, present, and compassionate with others. It’s hard to give love freely when we’re withholding it from ourselves. A healthy self-image reduces reactivity and increases empathy, while feeling secure in who we are allows us to form more genuine, respectful, and nourishing relationships. Little by little, the world then learns to love a little more ♥
5. Embracing Boldness and Joy
Choosing to do something that feels a little daring, whether that’s chasing a degree as a first generation college student, gathering the conviction to ask for the promotion you know you deserve, or even something small—like a boudoir shoot—can be a celebration of joy, boldness, and living life on your own terms.
It reminds you that you don’t have to wait for a special occasion to honor yourself. Joyful experiences often boost our mood, increase our resilience, and build positive memories to draw strength from.
Making yourself the occasion tells your mind and heart:
“I matter. I’m worth this.”
A boudoir photo shoot isn’t about vanity—it’s about visibility. It’s about seeing and honoring yourself with the same kindness and curiosity you’d offer a loved one. That self-love doesn’t stay locked in the studio—it ripples into every area of your life: how you show up, how you speak to yourself, how you love others. And that’s an investment with lifelong returns.
If you’re considering it, give yourself permission. You’re not doing it to become someone else. You’re doing it to remember who you already are.
