At Jezebel, we celebrate you. This encompasses every facet of who you are – who WE all are. We show you ways to see yourself through the lens of unconditional love, and we understand that some days it’s easy to appreciate ourselves, and other times it can be more of a challenge.ย
This is where we want to flip the script and really talk about what our bodies can do for us. Honest discussions can lead to acceptance, and acceptance can open our eyes to the possibilities of love.ย
Tuesdays at Jezebel are all about tummies! Each week we’ll be showcasing some of our favorite images where they have a starring role. We’ll be discussing the challenges we face with an often disliked part of our bodies and hopefully turning those conversations towards ones of appreciation.ย
But what if I don't like my tummy?!
Starting the journey toward body acceptance can feel daunting, but it is an essential and transformative process.
It begins with recognizing that our worth is not tied to our appearance!
One of the first steps is to acknowledge the societal pressures and unrealistic beauty standards that often shape our perceptions of ourselves.
By rejecting these external ideals, we start to make room for a more compassionate and authentic relationship with our bodies.
This shift doesn’t happen overnight, but taking small steps to challenge negative self-talk or choosing to focus on what our bodies do for us rather than how they look can be incredibly empowering.
On emotionally difficult days, itโs crucial to be gentle with yourself, and remember that healing is not linear and each day is an opportunity for progress โฅ
Loving our bodies is a journey
As body acceptance starts to take root, it can grow into body appreciation.
This involves shifting from merely tolerating your body to recognizing its unique qualities and celebrating them!
Start small by complimenting yourself each dayโwhether it’s admiring the strength in your legs for carrying you through the hours of a hectic job, the softness of your skin, or how your body allows you to experience the world.
Practicing gratitude for these simple, often overlooked functions of the body can help foster a deeper sense of respect.
A helpful tip for this stage is to keep a journal, where you write down three things you appreciate about your body each day, no matter how small they seem. Over time, this habit can shift your mindset to one of true appreciation, making it easier to nurture a more loving relationship with yourself.
