Staff Feature Saturday: Every Day is Christmas with Kaitlyn!

July is a beloved month at Jezebel VonZephyr. Why? Because it’s JVZ’s birthday month! We’re celebrating all month long with a special blog series that highlights the Jezebel team. Each Saturday in July we’ll feature one of the JVZ team members so that you, our lovely readers and clients, can learn more about us! 

To kick things off we’re featuring Jezebel’s resident old lady, nap connoisseur, dog lover and bookworm: Kaitlyn! Scroll on to learn about our wonderfully silly and strange Director of Operations.

Who are you? I am Kaitlyn aka the Nap Captain! 

How long have you been a part of the Jezebel team? And what do you do? I’ve been on the Jezebel Team since January of 2016. I am the queen of all things behind the scenes. I’m the one clients talk to for their style consultations, the one sending all of the very important pre-session information. I’m there for reveals, and the one to put together all of the fabulous products after the fact! And some other things, too. 

Where are you from? Here! Born and raised in the greater Seattle area!

What is your theme song? Cotton Eye Joe

When you’re not doing Jezebel things, what do you do? When I’m not at Jezebel causing shenanigans, I tend to be a bit of a homebody. I like curling up with my three dogs and a good book. I also love watching Netflix and playing board games with my husband and or our friends. I love to cook and bake, especially for others. You’ll never be at my house around meal time and go hungry. During the summer, I LOVE to go camping, especially in the middle of nowhere so I can howl at the moon at midnight. The other important thing you need to know about me is that I LOVE all things Christmas. I inherited my grandparents’ Christmas village a few years ago, and have recently started working to expand it. Nothing brings me more joy than the Christmas season.

What are three words you’d use to describe yourself? Weird. Wonderful. Silly. 

What three words do you think the JVZ team would use to describe you? Loud, strange, dog-obsessed.

Do you have a favorite drink? Tea! Any and all teas! I have an entire shelving unit dedicated to my love of tea!

What’s your favorite season? Why? I think it depends on what time of year you ask me. I love soaking in the sun of summer, and the cool nights of fall. I love snow in the winter, but only for a little while. So maybe only poor spring gets left out of my love. 

What is your favorite swear word? FUCK! Or maybe twatsicle. 

Would you like to share a random fact about yourself? I sure would! I am a Monopoly World (ok maybe just Williams Family) Champion

What book (or movie or TV show) do you recommend to all your friends? Always the Harry Potter series. I’ve also been on a big Kristin Hannah kick this year (although the Firefly Lane Netflix series kind of sucked). I drank up The Nightingale like a cool glass of water, and then had to proceed to reading everything else she ever wrote. As far as tv shows goes, I have several that I watch on repeat in succession. They are Gilmore Girls, Parks and Rec, New Girl, and Supernatural. Shameless, Animal Kingdom, and The Magicians are a few of my other favorites. 

Do you have a favorite JVZ shoot look or outfit? Or outfits?  I brought a bunch of flowers in from my grandma’s garden and shot them with a blue lace outfit on the bed. I felt like a flower queen for my 2019 session. In 2018 I can shamelessly admit that my team outfit was my favorite. (Team outfits are typically punishment, but not for me!)  The girls dressed me up as an old lady, complete with Ensure, compression socks, and Werther’s Original (one of my favorite candies). I rocked the socks off of that outfit. 2020 might have been my favorite session to date. I can’t think of a single outfit from that shoot that I didn’t absolutely love!

What advice do you have for anyone coming in for their first shoot? RELAX! The more you can let go of the worries and get yourself pumped up, the better time you will have! Spend your drive into the studio listening to your favorite music that makes you feel good. Sing at the top of your lungs and do a silly dance. Let that energy carry you throughout your session, and you will have the absolute best time of your life!

Can you share one of your favorite JVZ memories? (You can pick a few if it’s too hard to choose!) So many of my favorite adulthood memories are wrapped up in Jezebel, so these are just a few that come to my mind first. One year, we were raising money for charity. To drum up excitement, we told everyone that if we raised a certain amount by a specific time, Sara would pie me in the face. Of course, we raised the money, and pie time came. Tiffany, not to be left out, prepared an extra large whipped cream pie for Sara to throw at me. At the last second, Sara changed course and Tiffany got the pie in her face instead. I don’t think I have ever ran and hid so fast in my life. I had no intention of being around for the fall out on that one!

The other memory that comes to mind is more of a collection of memories. Every year around the holidays, we get together for Jezebel Christmas, and it’s one of my favorite things that we do as a team each year. We always ask for a table as far away from others as possible, and proceed to spend many hours eating (usually at least 2 full meals plus appetizers, and desserts), drinking, playing games, opening presents, and laughing until we cry. I wouldn’t trade those nights for anything!

What are your biggest hopes and dreams for Jezebel VonZephyr? I’d love to see Jezebel eventually grow outside of us. I want to see her spread her reach across the country, and help countless women in other places see their worth and beauty!
